So this is my first blog ever, to say the least I am very new to this whole thing. My name is Francis Hernandez and I am a freshman at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. My first collegiate cross country season went just alright, as i pr'd for 8k in just under 25 minutes en-route to 10k at regionals. Unfortunately i got injured in the beginning of the indoor track season while I was in very good shape. I had to take about 6 to 7 weeks off to wait for my injury (minor stress reaction in my femur) to heal. Since this was the first time I have ever been injured, I was pretty torn up about it. As much as I wanted to see my fellow teammates do well, I was gutted at the sight of all of them competing because I was spending every day in the training room. I guess that's the nature of the beast. I had high hopes this past indoor season of running close to 4:05 for the mile. I am not sure that people outside of the sport realize the stress and pressure that we as athletes put on ourselves. After all of the hard work, and workouts that were completed, an injury was probably one of the most devestating things that could have happened in that specific time of my life. On the upside, I went on the first run that I have actually felt good on today with my teammate and good friend Jonny Hopkins. I am redshirting this coming outdoor season to get in some good training and plan to be logging around 85 miles a week this summer. We have got some really good recruits coming next fall from overseas (Ireland and Great Britain). Hopefully Providence College can be a top ten team at Division 1 nationals in cross next year. I suppose only time will tell
